Smile Round 2

Hello all. This is my first post to the forum and only my second attempt at sobriety. My first attempt and encounter with AA was last Fall. I stayed sober for 42 days and felt great. It was more of a personal experiment at that time. I didn't think I was an alcoholic or addict, just drank too much or partied a little too hard...every weekend.

I gradually started drinking and using again. By February this year, things started the downward spiral. Firsthand and quickly, I saw the awful progression. August 12, I knew I had to become sober. I lost a 4 1/2 yr relationship to alcohol and drug abuse, moved back with my mom, lost close friends who couldn't tolerate my behavior anymore and am on the verge of losing my job. I felt my world falling apart around me and knew that I couldn't afford to lose anymore, so here I am.

I have an awesome friend who is sober, I've made some great contacts in the program and have a sponsor. I'm hopeful.

Hello! So glad you joined the family.

I wanted to believe I just was a heavy drinker, too - just overdid it a bit. Because I didn't ever admit I needed to stop all together, terrible and tragic things happened. This won't be you, oooriot. You can do this thing - and have the happy life you want, without the drama and misery.

Welcome.. i'm glad you are here. So sorry you lost a relationship.. I did too. I was engaged and we split up because of my drinking. It's rough.

Best of luck to you.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I'm really looking forward to getting to know some of you and learning from those who made this journey before me

Welcome to SR!! My first try at getting clean didn't work so well (I just stopped using, didn't do any of the work involved in changing what needed to be changed). I relapsed for a short time, DID lose my job as well as the respect and trust of those I'd managed to gain over the months when I was clean.

I think I needed that relapse to prove to me, once and for all, I had to choose recovery. That was almost 5-1/2 years ago, and SR has been a HUGE part of my recovery. I'm glad you've got a sponsor and I'm glad you're here.

Hugs and prayers,

Amy

I'm sorry to hear you lost a relationship because of your addictions.

Getting dumped was one of the wake-up calls that got me to re-evaluate my drinking habits as well, although that relationship hadn't lasted anywhere near 4.5 years.

Welcome and good luck.
