Just wanted to share...
that today I went to a see a specialist 'families affected by Drug and Alcohol abuse' psychologist/councilor. It was really, really GOOD. I feel like I have so much more clarity about my situation. She was a real 'give it to you straight' sort of person and gave me a heap of very practical suggestions. She knew exactly what was going on and did not judge at all. Going has really lifted me out of a bit of a fog.
I just wanted to share this and encourage anyone who is feeling overwhelmed to just take the plunge. I have put off calling any help services through some sort of misguided and ultimately self defeating/sabotaging sense that I needed to and could 'cope' by myself. I've realised that I can't and shouldn't.
Yay me! I feel really good about doing something for ME!

So glad to read this post!
I'm about to get health insurance so I'll soon have access to a therapist. I am going to shop around to find a therapist who understands addiction (and particularly how to help friends and families of addicts). Between this site, Nar-Anon, and seeing a therapist, I think I'll be in a much better place.
