That aisle in the store

You know the aisle i mean , sometimes it has mood lighting to make it seems sophisticated , it has rich colours , it might have carpet as opposed to tiles on the floor, a whole buying experience .

You know what ...... i'm over it . I used to enjoy fiddle faddling around choosing grape verieties and vinyeards , there was a whole ritual to go through .. How possibly could one not have a frascatti to go with fish , how often did the fish stay in the refigerator LoL, whilst i was living the dream of being a shophisticated boozer, where did i get off at ?

Well i went in the store yesterday and i walked straight past that aisle i did'nt deliberately not look at it, i did'nt look longingly , i did'nt run past and hide from it (as i did for the first 2 months ) i just had a look up it and moved on.

i'm nearly a 40yr old batchelor and it held as much interest and was as emotive for me as the nappy aisle. When i noticed this it made me smile .

Just a small message of hope and proof of how things change for all you guys and galls out there starting out ,

Bestwishes, M

When I first stopped drinking I'd try to avoid that section. Now I rarely give it a thought. sure spent a lot of time and money there in the past

In early recovery I would say the Serenity Prayer
over and over again until the uneasiness of alcohol
thoughts lifted from my thoughts. Finished my
shopping and was outta there.

Fast forward to 22 yrs sober later and the liquor
isle is still there and as for as I know, it aint going
anywhere's soon.

As long as Im alive alcohol will be there standing
in all shapes and forms for the picking. For me,
as an alcoholic in recovery, alcohol, no matter how
pretty it looks will only be poison ready, willing and
able to destroy, kill.

Accepting that fact makes staying sober simple.

It feels good to be able to walk down "that aisle" without getting tears in my eyes.
