I used to use: demands from my siblings as a reason to drink. Today instead I will : do what I committed to do for them, and be judicious about what I agree to in the future.
I once used the excuse of working consecutive long days as a reason to drink. Today instead I practiced cultivating an attitude of gratitude for having a job to do that provides for me.

Was going through a stage of trying to stop drinking, thought i was pretty bored with nothing to do, laying on the bed and my hands start wandering! Anyway long and short of it is that after the fact i had got a bit too excited and ended up with some little fellows in my eye. I could feel them kind of swimming around, i put up with it for as long as i could getting madder and madder, i could feel them trying to "get to the egg" (so to speak)!!
Eventually i cracked and had to go for a beer at the local bar.

I once used: my daughter's addiction and jail time as an excuse to drink.
Today instead I will:work on my recovery by going to meetings, calling my women friends, staying close to SR, and being productive in our home as well as being kind to myself and understanding that I cannot do this alone and do not have to.

I once used being housebound with a sick child as an excuse to drink.
Instead today I will do my best Florence Nightengale impression. Currently on our second Care Bears movie. Honoring requests for specially sculpted apple slices, fuzzy blankets, mickey mouse pillows etc. (She is 3, lol).

I once used: A hard day at work as excuse to drink. Today instead I will: Meet my piano teacher for a lesson, then go home and help my husband with his college math.
By the way, lately, every day at work is "hard". Honestly, it just plain sucks. I hate coming to my place of employment, and try to take each day "one day at a time" just to get through it. I try to concentrate on the end of the day and my free time in the evening. I now know that drinking makes it worse for me, in that I'd just smother out my feelings about work and not try to reach for something better. I settled for my drinking buddies who really could care less about me, and told myself that they were my friends. They aren't.

I once used: getting laid off, selling the house five minutes before foreclosure in a buyer's market, my husband being in rehab and a sober living house for 9 months not to mention drug court, my daughter having drug issues, having to live in the city instead of the suburbs, divorcing my husband, my daughter in jail, getting older as an excuse to drink.
Today instead I will:bake chocolate chip cookies with my daughter and break up the fallen branches in the backyard for the city brush pickup.
