A silly thing that's making me smile today
A silly thing that's making me smile today
I'm a stay at home mom with 3 small kids and am part of a mother's group. Every year they have a family get together (ie - dads included) in the evening.
It's tonight. And we're going. It starts at 6pm. And I'll be peeling my kids off the playground equipment trying to get them to eat. My 6 year old has eating issues and we'll have to wrestle that. Also my small two (ages 3 and 1) usually go to bed at 7 so something starting at 6 is a bit late. "The husbands" won't know each other and that will be awkward. Really there are lots of reasons why it's not ideal.
But of course you guys know the real reason why I've never gone before. 6pm on a Friday! How many drinks would I have had by then? I'd say 3 on a good day. 6 on a really hungover day that I'd have somehow rationalized starting even earlier than usual. And I shudder to think how many if I was on one of my multi-day benders. Those, I can count on one hand. But they happened.
So I'll raise a glass of HFCS infused punch to the newly sober among you tonight. It may sound like a nightmare kind of event. But honestly... I'm thrilled. Thrilled that I'm free to have fun with my children at 6pm. They don't ask for much, bless them. And running around with 26 other kids at bedtime are the things their summer dreams are made of.

How is that silly? I think it's wonderful! Yes, back in the day - 6pm would have found me in the bag for sure. I missed out on so much by not getting sober ages ago. I'm glad you are clearheaded to enjoy this event! (Even if it does sound a bit nightmarish )

Your post made me smile...have a great time
Sounds like real life, and that is fun!
The two little ones will probably be completely tuckered out by the excitement and fall asleep on the way home. I can just picture you putting them into bed, looking at those precious faces and appreciating them in a different way now that you're sober.
Sometimes its the little things that matter most!

I, too, am a stay at home mom of 3 little ones and am so grateful for the return of fun after 5! Tonight we are doing something similar. The kids were in VBS all week and tonight at 6:30 is their end of week celebration. We would definitely have blown this off in the past.
Hope you and your family have a great time!

I love the (not so)...simple things in life. Its far from silly but I know why you say that. I smile and feel good about the same type of things. Glad you enjoyed it.

Great post
i remember my kids bringing friends home in the evenings when they were young.my daughter explaining to her friends why her daddy kept bumping into things and was talking funny, then the embarrasment when the parents came to pick them up and i was slurring my words with a glased look in my eye.My daughter never brought many friends home.Just wish i had those years back to put things right
