Quotes for Codependents...add your faves!
Thumper and Summer Peach knew one that I had never heard before--sure applies to me--
"Make sure I don't have a wishbone where my backbone ought to be" --Elizabeth Gilbert from "Eat, pray, love" story about an unhappy married woman...(note to self get this book).
Mine has always been Einstein's definition of insanity--doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results...

One day I woke up and knew such a deep pain--and you have put it into words for me.

Made a little typo.
"I was so concerned about being someone's something that I was my own nothing."
MadeofGlass, I know how you feel. We Codie's get so tangled in other people we completely lose a sense of self. At least I sure did. Now I'm taking care of me and figuring out who I am. Doesn't sound difficult, but sometimes it's easier to give advice to others and tell them what to do than it is to stop and just take our own advice.

One origional from dandylion (myself).
After initiating the boundry ffor my sons that no drinking or intoxication would be tolerated in our home, I put up this friendly reminder on the wall:
"IF YOU BE SIPP'IN; I BE TRIPP'IN"
They were not amused.

I love this one!
Excellent one.
Great thread! Here is one more.
"Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage."
Anais Nin
This one is not really a quote but I read it often (on my wall at work) because I struggle with the concept. Here it is.
"One day at a time - this is enough. Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone; and do not be troubled about the future, for it has not yet come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering." Ida Scott Taylor
I can't wait to read some more!
Oh ETA: I like this one. It helped me MOVE when I was stuck
"Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important than fear."
- Ambrose Redmoon
"All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."--Gandalf in Fellowship of the Ring
"Your joy is your sorrow unmasked. And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears. And how else can it be? The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain."--Kahlil Gibran
I have hundreds of these. I love inspirational quotes.

"Quack is like crack so don't look back" is my personal diddy I would tell myself when the quack ringtone chimed with my xa calling from his drunken 3 month binge in Vegas.
It worked...happily 5 months of single peace and serenity! He is sober quacking now but I have sworn off all addicts... avoiding the quack attack!

Great thread !! Two of my favorites:
"It is what it is"
"We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us" (my signature quote...)
To me both of these are about ACCEPTANCE....

A man said to the universe:
"Sir I exist!"
"However," replied the universe,
"The fact has not created in me
A sense of obligation."
- Stephen Crane
It reminds me of 2 very different things: I do not have to cater to AXH just because he expects it. And: no one is responsible for taking care of me, except me.
