Hi there...I am new to this forum...well acutally I found it on day 1 of no drinking and have been reading some threads throughout my week..I decided to join tonight on day 7 of no alcohol just because honestly its a lonely feeling with no alcohol and I am pretty private and cannot just tell anyone what I am going through...there is some comfort in knowing that I am not alone (after finding this website and threads) in what I am going through...My drinking started in my teens...would mostly binge drink, get sick, swear to never drink again but never happens....I am pretty shy and really belive I self medicated to be more outgoing...as I got older had kids...stress levels would rise and found a glass of wine while cooking dinner took the edge off...well 10 years later that one glass turned into 5-6 (more on weekend). I always told myself I don't have a problem because I don't drink until after 12:00 pm. Soon I came to realize I really cannot function without it and want to be free of it...Also, I havt that everyone seems to notice if I drink too much but never notices when I don't...does that make sense to anyone....I know to those without a drinking problem its no big deal if someone quits...but it is huge to us with the illness...anyways...I never thought this disease would affect me...I was always the helping my mother when my dad got on his benders...oh well you just never know...so here I am mother of 3 grown kids...hoping and praying that I didn't pass this illness on to them...already see some signs in two of them...cannot tell you how upsetting that is. Anyways today is day 7 and have been feeling worse (physically) today and not sure if its just the flu or if this is normal? Had the usual symptoms for the first week...I did not see a doctor..just did this on my own cold turkey and educated myself best I could from the internet. I believe if I were to get any of the severe DT symptoms they would have happened my now, right? Anyways glad I found this website and advise from you guys would be so much appreciated...Tiffany

I didn't feel bad until the second week. Flu-ish, like you said.

Congrats on the big seven!

AA works for me. I attended my first meeting on day four and only missed one meeting in my nine months of sobriety. Now I facilitate the meeting.
AA has saved my marriage and my health. It is great to have support from people that know exactly what you are going through. Each one of the people in my group helps me stay sober, and I help them stay sober. If you don't like the first AA meeting you attend, try other ones, shop around until you find a good fit.
Best of luck to you.

Hi Tiffany

I'm not a parent myself, but there is alcoholism a few leaves back in my family tree...

regardless of that, I turned out ok, as did my brother...we both dealt with drinking problems in different ways.

My sister has never had a drinking problem as far as I know.

The best example you can give your kids is a happy fulfilled sober life I think

Welcome to SR

D

I my self am a wine drinker. I would go from 1 bottle tob2 bottles. It's only my second day sober and it's hard but I did it. I feel bored with out it. But I am really positive I have to do this for my health. Keep up the fight and come here when you feel anxious, bored or need to vent.

All the best

Absolutely! I think most people think it is like giving up chocolate.

Thanks for all the words of encouragement....I am finding that all thing my past that bother me or problems in my life right now are surfacing full force...I guess the alcohol masked these things...kinda like sweeping them under the rug...gotta face them full on and deal with them without alcohol...boy its tough...Tiffany
