Day 2 - Got through my first night!
Hello everyone!
Today is my second day sober. I'm feeling a little bit of anxiety but that's definitely normal for being this early in recovery! It's 92 degrees and humid so that's not making it much better haha. I have no desire to use right now, SR and NA helps me out so much!
I got through my first night sober and it was honestly ALOT easier than I thought it was going to be. I had no trouble sleeping which is surprising to me. I'm also pretty proud of myself because that was the first night in a while that I stayed sober because I wanted to, not because something came up where I had to. (=
Thanks to everyone who's given me support on other threads I've started!

Congrats on your newfound sobriety! I am just starting Day 11 and I write that it only keeps getting better! Exercise helps my anxiety. Find the exercise you enjoy and stick with it.
Best wishes in your recovery.

What helps me when I begin to experience an episode is to close my eyes and take 3 or 4 deep, DEEP breaths through my nose, hold it, then slowly release them. After 3 or 4, I keep breathing deeply but focus on that part of my body where I feel the anxiety manifested. Sometimes it is in the chest, the head, sometimes in my legs. Once I have identified the area, I focus there and I go through some self-talk, where I remind myself, sometimes over and over, that what I am experiencing is just anxiety, that it is just a feeling, it is not real, and that it will pass. Usually it only takes a minute or two for me to feel calmer, less agitated or panicky, but sometimes (especially in the beginning) it takes much longer. Just stay with the feeling, let it wash over you like a wave, then watch it flatten out and disappear. Sometimes more waves follow, but I just repeat this process over and over as necessary until I feel at peace.
People probably think I'm crazy since my worst trigger is the grocery store. I'll end up just standing there next to the Spaghetti-O's, holding onto my cart with my eyes closed. It helps though
