We deceive ourselves....

I'm off work for 3 weeks, one week in.... so, I've been attending more AA meetings......

I sat at one the other day and heard this young (20-something) man share and then cry.... about this guy I used to see every once in a while, this man's really good friend....

Apparently, although in AA, he decided drugs were okay to do (oh, but he didn't drink)..... Until last weekend. They couldn't wake him up. His funeral is being arranged as we speak.

We deceive ourselves, or maybe it's the disease, this malady, this ISM, whatever it is, it wants us dead.

I can't drink successfully, one is never enough, and my ISM (or whatever this is), would like to see me totally obliterated via drugs....legal or illegal (my choice would be illegal).

I'm in a 51 year old body with a very immature and young mind. No, it's no longer okay to teach school and go home to light up a doobie....or drink the case of beer, or do whatever it was I used to (rationalize) do.

All I know is another young man is no longer walking among us.

Think carefully before you make your next legal or illegal purchase, please. We just don't know what it does to us.

With Peace, Love, & Hugs,
~sb

sugarbear... that is really true. The other day I thought to myself "you know, I bet heroin would be great to take". I have never taken it in my life and I've seen how it ruins lives It was just my addictive voice kicking-in.

I'm sorry to hear about that young guy, such a shame.

It is really true. The first time I walked into AA, an old timer grasped my hands and said how lovely it was to see me, how this disease kills, how thankful he was that I had found them.
I was still questioning my alcoholism. I was still in denial and thought he was just some crazy old guy.
My eyes have truly been opened these past few months. It is true. This disease does kill. Whether its booze or drugs, no matter. We are playing with our lives.
We deserve to find our way through the madness of it all.
Thanks for sharing this important message x

Indeed sugarbear.

I had 3 funerals this week. I hate the saying thing come in three's but I guess it happens when its happens. Two were long timers, so they truly were at peace and ready to make their 13th step. but one was young also late 20's . Went back out and drank which took him to his other love heroin, and od.

Yes it wants us dead, we will get there eventually lets all just not do it with drinking and drugging.

it is very tragic. it is a good reminer, though, that it could be me if i let it happen.

it can be difficult sometimes for me to remember that it is the disease.
