Checking Back in - My 18th month Sober

Hey, Just thought I'd say hi to everyone.
The new life sobriety gave this hopeless boozehound has been busy and amazing.

I've been bonding with my kids a lot, but especially my son. At 10 months sober I found an old boat (but really good one) that needed to be stripped to the hull and rebuilt.
Here's the result:

Just because I'm sober now, and have been for about 1 1/2 years doesn't mean life is all peaches and cream (but it's been a whole lot better than before!). I have my share of days where I don't feel good and have to work really hard to manage and handle stress. For example: I lost my job in April and money is scary tight (but I've got a good chance of being back to work by September), the ignition interlock company changed a policy and basically guaranteed violating everyone using it to another 4months (by implementing random mandatory tests but not tied to the car being used - I was supposed to be done with it in 11 days) and I have no idea what's going to happen at my last court date in 3 weeks since I can't pay my $2k in fines and costs by then (and I'm not selling my boat!). My marriage still mostly sucks.

But you know what? I haven't had to drink over any of it! I am just doing my best to deal with each situation as it comes, do what I can, act appropriately, stand up for myself, and be humble. This moment right now is the only one I have so I'm not going to ruin it by stressing over something I can't do anything about right now.

I have a great support network, 100% sober friends, and am very close with my friends and my AA home group.

Take care, my friends. And my best to all the newcomers - YOU might be one of those that get to stick around here!

Happy, joyous, and Free...It's a real thing!

Awesome stuff thanks for the post.

It is so cool to have sober real friends and tools to carry us thru some tough times.

I love my fellowship and want to keep it that way.
