Red face Newbie

My name is Munkin... I have been trying to quit drinking for some time now, and just recently made a commitment to myself and my husband, that I am powerless over alcohol, and I began my sobriety on July 27, 2012. I need all the support I can find. I have doing my research and reading alot of books, and attending AA. I still find myself wanting to drink. I want what I see sober people have, but find myself returning to the bottle. I cant afford to keep doing this to myself, my family and my life. I am open minded, but lean more toward spirituality as opposeedd to religion. I am currently researching Taoism and Recovery. I hope to find some of what I seek in enlkightenment here.

Welcome Munkin!

I know it's rough right now..... I thought about drinking constantly at first, too. This forum was a Godsend - I spent my free time here every day, hanging on for another minute or another hour. I promise it won't always be this hard......

Give yourself lots of compassion and TLC and keep things as simple as possible. We're here for you!

Munkin.... Hello.

7/27 is my date too!

It is possible. There are many here to attest to it.

Try what program works for you. It may be a mix. Whatever. Just know its possible.

Glad you are here.

You've found a great place, Munkin. The people here helped me get well after a lifetime of drinking. I think it helps to know we're not alone. My family & friends just didn't get why I couldn't have 'one or two'. Here at SR everyone has walked the same road you've walked, & we get it. Welcome to your new life.

Hi Munkin79,
Sounds like you are building some solid foundations for your sobriety there.
For me accepting i was powerless over pritty much everything in my life was the start of a whole new way of looking at the world and how to deal with things.

Bestwishes on an exciting new journey, M

Welcome to SR, Munkin.
It does get better, believe me. And you're in the right place to get help and support.
As for wanting to drink... Yes, I still get those cravings. Fortunately I don't have any alcohol in the house, and they pass. Mostly.
I know I couldn't do it by myself. And I'm grateful that I don't have to.

We do understand how hard this is, and I think it's great that you're looking at recovery options.

HI, Munkin. I am only a few days into recovery. I do yoga daily now and I love Tao. Thanks for reminding me to re-read--it's been a long time. I know you will find much support here. Welcome!

I have been searching for God since I was 17. I know Edgar Cayce like the back of my hand, all of his readings. I have studied Buddhism, Christianity, Rosicrucian, Sufism, Al of the Master Teachings, The I AM movement, all the major religions, I have studied. I am now 42, and I have finally found God. He-She was right around the corner from me my whole entire life, and I found He-She in the rooms of AA.
Keep on with going to AA, get a good sponsor, I promise, it will happen. Don't give up, the Miracle hasn't happened for you yet.
If you would like to pm - me, I will give you exactly what I did and still do to this day. I am focusing on myself, studying Metaphysics, Going to AA, and just had a great job land in my lap on Wed. My Higher Power is doing it all.
Don't give up before the Miracle!!
