Traveling mercies...
Dear SR Family,
You are as dear to me as any in-the-flesh friends and support groups I have. I will be leaving tomorrow to make the 12-hour drive to be with my sister and will probably not get to visit the forum much, if at all for a while. Every one of you and your loved ones will be in my heart, my thoughts, and my prayers. I know you will be walking with me as I walk with you on this journey out of the darkness into the light.
My son's clinician has asked to meet with my sister and her husband, and has strongly urged my son to have no contact with his father. The program my son attends places a great deal of emphasis on family involvement, as do most of them, though this particular one has a weekly three-hour session for the family with the addict, another two-hour session for just the families, in addition to weekly individual counseling with just the addict, plus all the other groups, etc. I want to attend the family session on Monday, meet my son's clinician, and support my dear sister (the nurse, my son's Godmother, and a Godsend) who is learning FAST everything she can about addiction. Thank goodness she's a quick study. I haven't seen her in quite a while, so really looking forward to that.
I'm also looking forward to seeing some friends I haven't seen in almost two years since my husband and I relocated, so there is that, too.
I must stay strong and calm when I am around my son. The things that have happened would make it very easy to make mistakes of a codependent nature, so I hold that in my awareness, as I also look forward with a mother's joy to laying eyes on him and holding him in my arms.
I pray for all of you and yours. Wish me Godspeed and traveling mercies.
