How long did fatigue, etc, last for you?

It's been two weeks today (minus one day at a wedding last weekend, which was part of the deal I made with myself when quitting). I'm feeling good about it (I have so much time all of a sudden, that's the most amazing thing).

But physically, I'm definitely not feeling normal yet. Last night I slept for 12 hours, after a very normal, not super-taxing day. Also, some days I almost feel high.. not sure how else to describe it. Just sort of mentally vague, a little bit lightheaded. I find it difficult to be as focused and present as I'd like, particularly in meetings.

I've read that symptoms like this can last for up to three months as your body goes through withdrawal; particularly as your circadian rhythms get sorted out. But I'm wondering what your experiences have been like? Is this really going to last for 3 months?

Mine did. But after about six weeks it was intermittent.

My concentration and.focus were not reliable. It improved.

Congratulations!! Be proud! You have done a huge thing and the most difficult part is the beginning.

Hi biblio. Mine lasted about a month - at least the sort of thing you describe. I was head-achy, too, and a little groggy. It got a bit better each day.

Congratulations on your two weeks - glad you're feeling positive about it.

I feel pretty exhausted now at 4 months!

I wouldn't necessarily see it as a bad thing though Biblio...I love feeling exhausted, mainly because I used the 'to help me sleep' excuse for my drinking for many years.

I did have a lot of 'fog' in my second month and started to feel a lot better after that. But then I felt physically awful when I finally quit. And I was drinking daily for 12 years so I didn't expect to feel better straight away. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I started to feel better though. I hope you start feeling more 'normal' soon x

For me, the first month was when I felt the worst. The second month gradually got better. My energy levels are returning to normal now and I'm getting my concentration back. I'm 3 months and 2 weeks sober, and I still honestly don't feel as though I'm completely back to how I was before I started drinking. I'm just going with it though... trying not to rush it... not fight it. The reason we feel 'funny' is due to our brains balancing out again. It won't last forever and it's a positive thing
