Need To change girlfriend and friends

When your special mate is very upset cause you did not take her our drinking to coolest club around...

"Hey what do you mean Cinema, I watched all of them...it's Saturday, JUST ONE DRINK"

and...when your friends tell you:

"Last night we had so much fun, we drank till 6:00 AM, you should have come. Next time you must come!"

I am going to start all over again. I am new in Town and I know nobody :-)
Any advice on how to look for new healthy friends?

:-)

You can meet a bunch of sober people in AA.

hi icanwin...I like your name! Welcome to SR, and congrats on starting your life anew.

The first, obvious places to me, are bookstores or book clubs, churches, AA, or other community clubs, like political groups, or groups for a cause you believe in. In the US, there is also a website called meetup.com, which is interest-oriented, not dating or such. You might route around the web for something like that in the UK. I'd think London would have something, huh?

Good luck! Glad you joined SR!

PS: Just checked. Meetup.com works for London!

Well done you on not letting other people undermine your sobriety!

I reckon it is harder for people to adjust to the new sober us, than it is for new people we meet to just accept us as we are.

AA is an excellent place to start. Try Gumtree.com for the UK too. I've met up with musicians from there before. Night classes, fitness classes...anything you're interested in really.

Yes, I second that. I've gone a surfing trip from there before. I have a friend that uses it for dating, she finds she meets people as friends then goes from there (it removes pressure).

People you give me strength. You are wonderful people. All I know is that I will work hard to make clean friends, cause I enjoyed too much my sober weekend. And I want to keep going!

Good Night :-)

I just let life happen and sober friends made their way into my life. Congratulations on starting over, it's hard to do but very worth it.

This being new in town would be a great place for me to be! No one knows me, no one knows the extent of my drinking.
It would be so easy to go to AA and start over!! What a wonderful place to be, trying to get sober in a brand new town!!!

Volunteer. That's what saved me in my very early recovery. Get out there and do something in your community to give back and you will have a chance to meet lots of new people.

Hi I icanwin. I Just wanted to wish you all the best in changing your lifestyle and meeting new people

Also wanted to say thank you to NewBeginning and LoftyIdeals for mentioning the meet up site. I'd never heard of it, but I've found what looks like a great group of ladies close to me in the UK who go out on various social events - I've just joined. It's quite exciting!

Have a great Monday everybody!
