Who made it through July 4th?
Who made it through July 4th?
To all of you who made it, congratulations!
To any of you who didn't, keep coming back! It is a powerful dis-ease. It is a baffling dis-ease. It is a cunning dis-ease.
I have fell off the sobriety path more times than I have stayed sober. This is the first time in my life I have made it 6 months, One Day At A Time!
When we relapse the most: Christmas
The 2nd most: July 4th
How many alcoholics/addicts get sober: 1 out of 100
How many make it past two years: 1 out of 7000

4th of July was a non-issue for me. Went to a bbq and didn't miss drinking. Not to say I didn't have a fleeting thought of a beer.... It didn't last. Like you said, if someone didn't get through yesterday without drinking, we're all here and get what it's like to start over!

Had a sober 4th, probably one of the few since I was 16. On day 11. Haven't posted until now because I rarely get beyond day 5 or 6 and only a few times past 10. I am using a combo of AVRT and prayer. Haven't had much luck with AA in the past, but if I get past 30 days, plan to take in some meetings. They say AVRT and AA don't mix, but I'm one of those people that can take what I need and leave the rest of about anything.
Thanks for the stats, soberbrooke - very interesting. And congrats on 6 months! I'll have 6 months if I make it to Christmas Day, and I certainly plan to.

Congrats to everyone who stayed the course and made it through. I also had a sober 4th of July, the first one in too many years to remember. Spending the last month on SR first lurking and then as a member has been very helpful in making that happen. A many Thanks to all of you!
Still I rise.

Made it through and actually forced myself to go to a party I didn't want to go to. I went to make my husband happy. It was just as boring and uncomfortable as I thought it would be, but I sat through it. Huge victory for me, tomorrow will be three weeks for me.

I did!!! I am Canadian so my circumstances were different - I had to be closing bartender to cover for a friend at the pub I work for. I so dislike bartending, especially at night, and have been trying to get out of it but have had no other luck with jobs. Anyway, I was offered so so many shots and we also get drinks but I managed to say no to everything!!! It was also a bad anniversary date for me too - but yes I made it through!
Congrats to all down south who remember seeing the fireworks last evening!!!

Well, I don't know about statistics, but I was sober for 8 years then drank again, then 9 years then drank again. Now I am 10.5 months sober, and and I don't think I have a relapse/recovery left in me.
