Bad Accident in my Backyard just now....

I live in a very quiet totally residential neighborhood in Houston. The main drag is a dead end street with 30mph speed limit. I live on this street, which crosses a bayou just at my house. I heard a loud crash about an hour ago---a young man doing estimated 70mph lost control of his little car and went off the bridge, rolled, and crashed into an embankment. He was ejected. Alcohol is the suspected culprit. They have lifeflighted him (helicopter) to our medical center here, but he is not expected to survive. For some reason, no one was walking in that area--usually lots of kids, people walking dogs, etc. No one else was hurt.

I guess someone thought I needed another reminder. Prayers to this young man and his family.

How sad. You know, I think Houston is a particularly dangerous city for excessive drinkers, because everyone drives everywhere. There's very little in the way of public transportation, and it's a terrible place for walking around. It's kind of scary to think of all the people out in bars each night, getting into their cars, and driving home. We have so many little white crosses alongside the streets in my area to mark all of the drunk driving fatalities, but people still do it.

I live to the S.E. of Houston and it's amazing the reports of drinkers driving the wrong way up on the big roads and killing others. I will be staying home tonight.

Wow. So So scary. I hate driving on holidays like this. Even you you are sober, someone drunk could hit you and kill you. Sometimes it's scary just leaving the house.
