Hello there,
I am an Australian woman living in NYC.
Today is my first day of sobriety. I have been abusing alcohol now to a point where it is ruining my life.
My grandmother was a raging alcoholic - and I am now following her footsteps.
Any advice on how long the trembling will take to go away? This is really scary for me - as I am only 28 years old.

hi and welcome
I moved your two posts to their own thread.
If you have any health concerns at all it's really best to see a Dr or even go to the ER - detox can be rough for some of us.
As far as what to do - coming here is a great start - are you open to the idea of face to face support as well?

Thanks
Hi Dee,
I sadly don't have health insurance - otherwise, I would be seeing a psychologist.
I am open to face to face support. I am looking into AA meetings in my area.
At the moment I am trembling so much it's frightening. Any advice to reduce the shaking? I am drinking lots of water to stay hydrated.
I am thrilled that I am part of this community. It is a good place for me to learn about others' experiences with recovery.

apart from getting checked out the only things I can suggest is common sense stuff - get lots of rest, eat well, stay hydrated but avoid caffeine....and maybe check this link out - I'm actually an Aussie too so I have no firsthand knowledge of the US...
but I'm told there's free or low cost health clinics around in the States - there certainly should be some in NYC...it might be a place to go if you feel you need medical consultation or advice?

Welcome AussieNewYorker! I know it is rough, I was there just over two weeks ago.
I chose to go to the ER, and if your symptoms seem to be worsening, don't delay. They can help you stay safe.
As for what you can do, I found light exercise, like long walks, very beneficial.
Also, as others have said, lots of rest and hydration.
Hang in there and stay strong! :ghug3
