A lovely day

Ive just spent a lovely afternoon car hunting with my 19 year old son and his girlfriend. We've been to every car showroom in a 15 mile radius and sat in countless cars discussing engine size and insurance quotes.
I know it will sound silly but I've thoroughly enjoyed being a proper attentive parent. This is how I should always have been for him. Responsible, caring, supportive.
I've wasted Saturdays for years with hangovers and regrets.
Today I was the Mum I always wanted to be and it felt so so good. Thankyou for listening x

Congrats Jeni! It's amazing how overwhelmingly good the simple things can feel when we're sober. Sounds like a lovely day indeed!

For 15 years, my Saturdays involved sleeping off the night before until 2pm, then going to the liquor store and drinking the rest of the day/night. Now, I am up at 9am on weekends and take pleasure in simple things like walking to a coffee shop and reading the paper. Normal life...who'd a thunk!?

It's great isn't it jitterbug? I think it means even more to me this week as I didn't know if I'd make it.
I am so grateful for today x

Hi Jen,
yes Jen that is a great indicator of a good sobriety when we begin to appreciate the mundane things in life.

Love

Jeni that's great the beauty in life is so often in the detail and drinking often paints with dramatic broad strokes . I would often avoid some things that appeared too early in the day
Although when I did I always enjoyed the freshness of a new day now that present is available everyday.
I oiled a garden table a job I couldnt be bothered with ,the pleasure is immense . Good job I'm cack handed or I might take up DIY.
Thanks for the insight.
John

Amazing Jeni - I can certainly relate. It was my middle daughter's 21st birthday this week and we spent a lovely day on the coast, paddling and walking on the pier (with plenty of stops for tea and ice cream). Two years ago that would not have been possible. Enjoy!!!!

And yes it is going to rain all week!!! Good luck with the training - our country needs you!!!!!!
