Out from the shadows

So I've been lurking since last Monday, my day one. And I thought it about time to join and say hello. I'm in my late twenties and have been drinking since my late teens. I started off as the weekend partier, able to control myself for school nights and work nights. But when I did drink, I frequently lost control of those nights, doing crazy things or getting emotional. It eventually turned into a weeknight thing with a stressful profession/work situation for awhile. I was able to cut back to mostly weekends, but still not in control of those nights. I just hate feeling crappy the next day. I hate waking up worrying who I texted, who I talked to, what I said, what I posted on fb. I have a husband who is great, who may or may not believe I have a huge alcohol problem but is very supportive and a normal drinker. Nothing crazy happened happened last weekend but I woke up Monday saying "that's it." Thanks to reading from you all here for the last 9 days, I am on day 9. I had a great memorial day weekend sober and I dont know the last time I went this long without drinking. So thanks again and thanks for having me and hope to keep trucking along with y'all. I love everyone's supportive nature and positive feedback!

Welcome!
I know all about trying to moderate to only weekends, only beer, only ___ .
Never worked out that way.
It's better to stop now while you can before it completely consumes your life.
You will find much support & encouragement here.

Welcome OneLess. It's so good that you're able to put a halt to the out-of-control activities before something tragic happens. I knew early on that I wasn't a normal social drinker, but I refused to acknowledge it. I'm glad you see the light.

Hi OneLessLonely,
Sounds like a very familiar pattern to me. When drinking stops being fun and causes problems more than not, its time to do something. Welcome!

Thank you all for your warm, warm welcomes. I feel very grateful to have found this site, and very grateful to have had something click with me at this point in my life. I don't want it to get to a point of marital discord, family trouble, or much worse. I couldn't believe I made it 9 days just by reading all your posts, I can't imagine how much more helpful it will be to now interact with all of you!
Patrisha, Glad to have someone on the same time frame, let's keep it up!

Yeah...The way it works here is...Tomorrow you'll be helping somebody that's just showing up. It's kind of nice.
