Re-do
Re-do
Sadly, today is day 1 (again) of my recovery. What am I doing to avoid drinking tonight?
1.posting here
2.avoided the liquor store on the way home from work
3.signed up for a 6 am workout class with my friend for tomorrow.
What did you do today to get you through?

Hi Angela,
Glad you're getting back on the wagon.
I've been reading the forums and the book Rational Recovery, which is really helping me today.
I think reading books about recovery is very helpful for the self-reflection that they generate.
There's a good thread going on right now of book recommendations:

Maybe picking one of them up will help give you something more to do than just avoiding drinking, which can be difficult? Or make some other plans for the week during the times when you would drink -- like going to or renting a movie, making a nice dinner, going to a coffeeshop, or anything else that appeals to you.
Filling your time with alternative activities you enjoy can be really helpful in your first days of sobriety.
Good luck and keep posting here!

You know what works best for me -- going outside. I went for a run this morning and walked tonight. Sometimes I'll sit on a bench to watch the sunset or I'll look at the trees and the birds. Or I'll just stare at the lake sometimes. I don't have to be surrounded by nature though; I think it has a lot to do with being exposed to natural light; it always improves my mood.
I spend time with my dogs and it's a huge part of my recovery. To know that they're healthy and happy due to my sober loving care makes me feel on top of the world. The two I have now have never known me drinking as I was sober when I got them.
