ive been sober since 5/7 and today was the first day back at the lake in my boat, realy its the first time ever with no booze in my boat. The day went well its alot different not getting a buzz but still fun. Now all my friends want me to come over to party but im just staying at home, feels like im hiding, i guess i kinda am, but i know i will wake up in the morning and feel good and not have to ask what did i do last night?

Hiding?....your doing what you need to do to stay sober. I call that courage.

Each time my former husband ..a charter boat Captain on the Chesapeake Bay..
had to interrupt his job to assist other boaters..alcohol was a factor.
So glad you will not be doing dangerous actions again..

For the first while- healthy avoidance of places and people who temp you or you will find difficult to resist a drink is sensible. Over time you will get a lot more comfortable in your skin and sobriety, you will become more resilient and less prone to getting tempted, or having urges etc.

I found it helped to the characterise what I was doing as building a new way of living- that has a foundation of sobriety. It is a much different way of approaching what I was doing.

I also started to look around and started seeing things with different eyes. It's an adventure.

I was angry at myself for hiding for a long time, but now at 1 year 10 months plus some days sober, I believe thats what helped me most.

sounds good, im watchin movies on netflix becaus the wind is blowing to hard to watch anything on the satalite

I'm at the lake right now and it's very strange not to have a drink. I'm sitting by the pool at the condo. Sipping on water. Luckily my husban isn't here, just parents and my kids and my bro. My hubby drinks a ton on vacation

Can't believe I happened upon this thread, Bode. We are sailors....In fact we just got off our boat not an hour ago. Early in my sobriety I found it very difficult to be in the boating environment because sailing usually = cocktails. I know few sailors that don't drink. I had to stay away from that scene for a while. These days it's not an issue for me. We're back on the water, and I'm still "dry". Give yourself some time. Sober boating is really a lot more fun than buzzed boating....not to mention safer.

You've only been sober a few weeks, it takes awhile to figure out how to live the sober lifestyle. It's good to avoid dangerous situations in early sobriety. Once you get some sober time (and confidence) built up, it get's a lot easier.
