I haven't drunk!
I haven't drunk!
It's my birthday evening, and I was bought 2 bottles of wine by well intentioned friends who don't know I quit. I came home and had the strongest craving I think I've had since stopping. Lovely summers evening. Husband cooking a birthday meal and sitting in the garden. Perfect.
I desperately searched SR for my first postings that I made when I really struggled in the beginning, but couldn't find them.
I needed something to remind me of why I should stay stopped.
Then my kids came in and looked at the wine and said what a shame people had bought that when I don't drink. I don't drink....I don't drink.... It was said so simply, and they have just accepted that their mum is a non-drinker. No big deal.
How wonderful. I felt choked and I'm not even sure why.
On the lemonade, really happy and completely sober.
Love and best wishes to you all xxx

"I don't drink." I say it to myself all the time.
Let me share something my therapist told me. He's got about 30 years sobriety himself.
He said, "If you can think of one thing for which you are truly grateful, I guarantee you will not drink."
GUARANTEE? That's a pretty huge promise but I still do believe it. When I think about what I have, and would probably lose if I got back to being a drunk, I do not drink.
Congratulations and very best wishes.

I like this one I heard from a guy in my homegroup who is 74 years old and has 50 years sober in AA this year. His sponsor told him this. One of his sponsors...He outlived a couple of them.
If you never have a drink...You'll never need a drink.
