Hello, my name is Emily and I am 19 years old. Looking at the posts on here, I feel sad, but it also makes me want something more in my life. I have never been an addict, but my ex bf is still and I want to help him. But I can't without him actually wanting it himself. He just doesn't get how much it affects everyone else, not just him.
Why do we have to have 5 posts before we can Private Message? Just asking.

Oh! Welcome to Sober Recovery.

Have you tried AlAnon, just for you? It could help you get a grasp on what is going on with your bf, and why he doesn't get it.
Most importantly, you will get lessons on how not to get hooked up with people who are addicted. You deserve to come first in any boyfriend girlfriend relationship. It is not something you have to "earn" by hanging in during an addiction.
I am a recovering alcoholic and have been married to it, and was raised by an alcoholic.
Learned a lot the hard way.
Don't do it the hard way, go to AlAnon and learn about boundaries.

the 5 post thing is probably so that you are publicly visible to moderators and members a few times before you can start contacting directly and privately...perhaps a way to deter internet stalkers...the LAST thing we need around here!! welcome to SR!
