burning in abdomen

I've been a heavy drinker for 3 years and am just getting it under control. I have had a severe burning senestion in my abdomen. It is not localized, its all over. Is this something I should be concerned about?

welcome southernbelle

Any pain is a sign there's something not right, I think.
If you're concerned why not get it checked out?

I think it's something you should see your doctor about.

Southernbelle, we cannot answer that question and we cannot give medical advice. If it concerns you, then you should see your doctor.

Welcome southernbelle!

It's really hard to guess about medical things and no one would want you to place your bets on someone's else experience. We stick to a rule about "no medical advice".....

Glad you're here though - it's a great place to to come for support when you're trying to stay sober. I hope you get some help and feel better soon....

I started getting that burning sensation when my wine drinking increased. It completely would go away when I would lay off the wine for a few days. This is one of the many reasons I decided to quit drinking. Maybe you should consider it too.

like others have said the only way to know for sure whether this is serious or not is see a medical professional.

It could be as simple as some form of gastric reflux - or it might be a more complicated and serious problem. None of us are qualified to diagnose you here tho

Go see a doctor. None of us are qualified to give medical advice. Just support and advice on sobriety. It could be nothing major or a real problem. Only a medical professional will be able to tell for sure. For your health and peace of mind, see a doctor.

See a doctor.

Alcohol seriously changes the lining of the stomach, esophagus, intestines and other organs. It changes the pH level in the stomach so we can't really digest B vitamins.

Yeah, See a doctor and find out what is going on!

Glad you are here!

Hey SB21,
You describe it as "severe burning". This makes me think you need to get to the doctor sooner rather than later. You could have any number of things going on, a few of them are emergencies.

See a doctor. I had pains in my upper stomach, almost felt like bubbles, but it stopped when I quit drinking. Turned out to be nothing. Hope you're okay, wishing you the best

Let us know what the doctor says. (Ahem, this is a subtle reminder that you MUST get this checked.)
