Socially irresponsible immensely popular song that glamorizes alcohol

I thought (hoped) I misheard the lyrics while at a local nightclub.
I was wrong. Unbelievable

Taio Cruz - Hangover lyrics - YouTube

i got a hangover, wo-oh!
i’ve been drinking too much for sure
i got a hangover, wo-oh!
i got an empty cup, pour me some more

so i can go until i blow up, eh
and i can drink until i throw up, eh
and i don’t ever ever want to grow up, eh
i want to keep it going, keep keep it going, going, going, going…

i got a little bit trashed last night, night
i got a little bit wasted, yeah yeah
i got a little bit mashed last night, night
i got a little shhh faced it, yeah yeah

oh oh oh oh oh
i’m on the roof
oh oh oh oh oh
if you don’t know
oh oh oh oh oh
well now you know
oh oh oh oh oh

i got a hangover, wo-oh!
i’ve been drinking too much for sure
i got a hangover, wo-oh!
i got an empty cup, pour me some more

so i can go until i blow up, eh
and i can drink until i throw up, eh
and i don’t ever ever want to grow up, eh
i want to keep it going, keep keep it going, come on!

[flo rida - rap]
drink up, cause a body in a body, take a ride, i’d do it
end up on the floor with cameraman, are you clueless?
officer, what the hell you’re doing?
stopping it, trouble it, you know what? come again
give me henn, give me gin, give me liquor, give me champagne
bubbles til the end
what happens at the leather, if you inspired it til after ten
like oh my homie taio, we can all sip again
and again and again and again, ….
wasted, so what? irrelevant
we’re kicked to the head, who’s selling it
i got the hang of it, that’s my limousine
don’t mean like i said, i’m too intelligent
a little jack can’t hurt this veteran
i show up but i never throw up, so let the drinks go up, … up

i got a hangover, wo-oh!
i’ve been drinking too much for sure
i got a hangover, wo-oh!
i got an empty cup, pour me some more

so i can go until i blow up, eh
and i can drink until i throw up, eh
and i don’t ever ever want to grow up, eh
i want to keep it going, keep keep it going, come on!
going, going, going. going….. come on!
going, going, going. going….. come on!

i got a hangover, wo-oh!
i’ve been drinking too much for sure
i got a hangover, wo-oh!
i got an empty cup, pour me some more

so i can go until i blow up, eh
and i can drink until i throw up, eh
and i don’t ever ever want to grow up, eh
i want to keep it going, keep keep it going, come on!

Frankly, I don't think "socially responsible" or "respectful of women" could be applied to any of party-boy Taio Cruz's music.

Maybe its just me being a blonde, but when I was a teenager, I rarely noticed the lyrics. It wasn't until just a few years ago that I learned that the Doobie Brothers band was not named after the family with the last name Doobie.

That said - my teenagers aren't allowed to play this crap in my presence. Yuck.

It's funny how it strikes you sometimes -- there's another popular song right now that talks about a guy watching his (ex?)girlfriend across the room and seeing a scar she has, and he says "I know I gave it to you months ago. I know you're trying to forget."

and that song just infuriates me. So that's romantic? Wanting to get back together with a woman you abused? What the everloving F?

I sometimes blame all those songs(and movies too) that trivialize and glamorize drinking for me growing up thinking that heavy drinking isn't really that bad of a thing to do. I can't believe how naive I was. What upsets me the most is the Two and a Half Men series that portrays heavy chronic drinking and womanizing as a humorous lifestyle. A sleazy alcoholic who treats women in a degrading way and views them as objects. This is funny????

Good Point and I agree...

...though Paxton's resonates differently with me-- sort of sad, melancholy and painful.

Ramblin' around this dirty old town
Singin' for nickels and dimes
Times getting tough; I ain't got enough
To buy a little bottle of wine
CHORUS
Little hotel, older than Hell
Dark as the coal in the mine
Blankets are thin; I lay there and grin
'Cause I got a little bottle of wine
CHORUS
Pain in my head and bugs in my bed

Pants are so old that they shine
Out on the street, tell the people I meet
Won'cha buy me a bottle of wine
CHORUS
Well the preacher will preach; teacher will teach
A miner will dig in the mine
I ride the rods, trusting in God
A-huggin' my bottle of wine
CHORUS

my point being, there have always been songs that glamorize the darker side.........

Oh, man, I HATE that show. I make my AH turn it off if ds and I are in the house. One episode had Charlie Sheen and his housekeeper rolling a joint. They were really pushing limits with that show. Blech!

I believe this one is from: Fun. and the song is called "We are Young"???? I know the band is Fun. and I won't let my son play that song when it comes on in the radio. That was the first lyric I noticed about the scar and how he wants to make it up to her.

My kids are (I think) older than your son, liza -- and I use those songs as learning opportunities.

There's also one (and I can't remember the artist OR the title, again -- remember when you thought your parents were complete morons for not knowing who the Top 20 artists were? Yeah, I'm there...) where the lyrics go something along the lines of "I'm trying to find the words to describe her/without being disrespectful..." and then immediately goes to, "the way that booty moves..." (it always has my girls in stitches saying things like, "would someone PLEASE buy that guy a dictionary? Or a brain transplant?"

I heard some elementary school aged kids singing that song outside my window awhile back. I think kids just sing what they hear and not really think about the lyrics.
