Being around the "I need a drink" people

I've never realized how ridiculous this phrase was until lately. I work with this guy who sits right next to me, and I hear it at least 5 times a day. "Damn, I need a beer." or "This report will never get finished. I could use a drink." I'm serious - there is never a day when he doesn't say it multiple times.

I'm just thinking.....how is that going to help anything?! Then I curse under my breath and then have a laugh at/with him about it.

heh. I used to say that. I remember, my old boss was fond of saying "what a month to quit drinking!"

hmmmm. I think the "i need a drink" line was used *a lot* in older movies, from the 40's and 30's. it is interesting, the verbal habits we can form.

Some people use the phrase as a figure of speech, as a way of to make light of having to work hard. I had a co-worker use that phrase a lot and he actually didn't even drink haha.
