Do I have a problem ?
Hi everyone, I am 45 been drinking since late teens , past 15 years drinking 100-120 units a week. Given up for two weeks and drank last night bug not today. I have hardly ever got drunk , just fall asleep about 9pm every night. Little voice in my head says I ain't got a problem and wrangling with me trying to convince me I'm ok to drink. I think I have been lucky upto now as I have had abnormal liver function test results for 10 years . Am I alcoholic?
Well Dexter...I can't say if you're an alcoholic, but 100-120 units a week is a hell of a lot! 120 units over 7 days is 17 drinks a day! I am an alcoholic and that's more than I was drinking on a daily basis.

I really believe people don't access this site without knowing, deep down, that they have a problem.
From reading your post, yes, I think you have a problem but it means nothing what others think about it. It is what you want for your own life that matters.
Best to you.

It does sound a very large intake Dexter. I got to a similar level on beer and I definitely had a problem. I was (am?) also a 'sleepy alcoholic' - just slowly anaesthetising myself without showing any extrovert drunken behaviour.
Hi and welcome Dexter
Only you can really decide if you're an alcoholic or not...but considering you've had abnormal liver readings for a decade, and you're still drinking, & up to 120 units a week when the recommended UK level is I'd say you have some cause for concern there, yeah?

Men should drink no more than 21 units of alcohol per week (and no more than four units in any one day).

Dexter, welcome to SR. It's always tempting to focus in on how much or how often a person drinks (and yeah dude, you drink a lot, even by my standards), but the real question is whether or not you're happy with your relationship with alcohol...and I'd guess since you're here, the answer is no. If you're asking the question, you probably already know the answer, ya know? If you want to quit drinking for good, you'll find a lot of support here.
