What would you say to a chronic relapser?

There was a topic here, earlier, asking about what would you say to a newcomer.

Now I ask, what would you say to a chronic relapser?

Boy, Sapling, you sure crammed a lot of wisdom into those five words.

Yep, one thing this site proves is that different approaches work for different people. The other thing this site proves is that anyone can escape addiction, if you just refuse to give up until you find the right path.

When you fall down, get back up.

I am really struggling after a relapse. I feel so discouraged and don't really know where to start. I stopped calling my sponsor a while back and here I am again. I am filled with shame and guilt. I fully accept that I am an alcoholic and I strongly want to be healthy and sober. I experienced long term sobriety several years ago but I just can't seem to get back to that place. Any words of support would be welcomed as I am feeling pretty hopeless this evening.

Welcome to SR healthysober....What did you do to get long term sobriety before?

Yes, for five years I was very immersed in AA. I gradually pulled away from it and now I really want to find my way back.

Did you take a lesson from each time you relapsed, and make a plan on how to avoid it next time? If not why not?

Welcome healthysober!

I relapsed after a long period of sobriety/AA, too..... and I did it twice! It does seem to be harder getting back to it, but finding this place was exactly what I needed to get started and stay motivated.

You know you're going to have to get sober, and if you're like me, thinking about it was terrifying, but once you get started you're going to feel so much better, look better, feel calmer........ and you'll be so glad you took the plunge.

We're here for ya!!:ghug3

never give up...but be prepared to add new things to what you've been doing until you get whatever it is that works for you, Andre

welcome healthysober

you'll find a lot of support here - sometimes I think it can be as simple as not picking up the next drink, and finding the right support to help you do that (simple, not easy)
