Women for Sobriety

I haven't seen a lot on here about WFS. I was looking at their website and was curious if any women on SR have had success with the program?

I don't know much about WFS, but I think you should follow any program or use any tool that works for you.

Hi cutepooka. I'm a member of their forum, but I haven't ever posted! I read there some and I read and follow some of the basics of WFS. 13 statements etc. Lots of super info!

I've read Turnabout by Jean Kirkpatrick. She was the founder of Women for Sobriety. She has since passed away. It was a very helpful book for me. You may want to check it out.

Good Morning, I started AA 12 4 2011 . My last drink was 12 15 2011! My recovery is going well through the Grace of God and the Fellowship of AA. I go to meetings every day, pray pray and pray some more. Try and help newcomers and work the Twelve Steps. It is a much better way of life than drinking morning noon and night! God Bless You

I have only been to a few WFS meetings, but I found the positive spin that this program has so appealing. It's more about empowering and equipping yourself vs. breaking you down to build you back up. I am not an expert in any program, but WFS has some great aspects worth looking into!

I like their format and ideas but they're not very accessible.
AA on the other hand is very accessible and I really like the women's meeting on Wednesday nights.

I too checked them out early on but agree they don't seem very accessible - compared to AA mtgs which are very frequent and all over my city.

Here is an older thread about WFS. I used to visit their site in the past and still do at times but I find more diversity here. Their materials, including their newcomer's packet, aren't cheap. I don't think they are a non-profit.

Hi Everyone

Just found this older thread
Wanted to share that I have just found WFS and am blown away by it. The 13 statements have hit exactly the right spot for me. Self Esteem has been a big issue for me and Jean Kirpatrick's books especially Turnabout are proving to be a valuable tool in my sobriety amoury
Briefly the 13 statements for those who have never read them are:

(Copyright: Women for Sobriety, Inc.)

WFS "NEW LIFE" ACCEPTANCE STATEMENTS

1. I have a life-threatening problem that once had me.

I now take charge of my life and my disease. I accept the responsibility.

2. Negative thoughts destroy only myself.

My first conscious sober act must be to remove negativity from my life.

3. Happiness is a habit I will develop.

Happiness is created, not waited for.

4. Problems bother me only to the degree I permit them to.

I now better understand my problems and do not permit problems to overwhelm me.

5. I am what I think.

I am a capable, competent, caring, compassionate woman.

6. Life can be ordinary or it can be great.

Greatness is mine by a conscious effort.

7. Love can change the course of my world.

Caring becomes all important.

8. The fundamental object of life is emotional and spiritual growth.

Daily I put my life into a proper order, knowing which are the priorities.

9. The past is gone forever.

No longer will I be victimized by the past, I am a new person.

10. All love given returns.

I will learn to know that others love me.

11. Enthusiasm is my daily exercise.

I treasure all moments of my new life.

12. I am a competent woman and have much to give life.

This is what I am and I shall know it always.

13. I am responsible for myself and for my actions.

I am in charge of my mind, my thoughts, and my life.

Check it out ladies - just google WFS
