Need Some Help Here, A little Unsure, How to Help When Need Help
I know, me again, but not with sage words. I was chilling on my patio with my iced tea when a neighbor came over looking not so good. I guess the word got out in the "hood" I'd been hauled off to treatment, ambulances give that away. Anyhoo he said he needed help, things were out of control. Drinking non stop, blackouts, etc. etc. etc. He asked me for help, speaking of the blind leading the blind. I felt freaky and vulnerable and we talked. I took him to a meeting and gave him the contact for the treatment program I was in and offered to assist. Rambling here. the point is, I'm not sure I handled it correctly, if I helped or enabled, am I too close to it all to be objective. I guess I was reaching out as they say in AA to others...I don't know what I expect from you all, I just tried to do what I could but maybe too co-dependent. It was a good meeting, he introduced himself in the first 30 day thing, I didn't have to. So rambling. How does one help the hurting when one still feels very hurt?
I love it when newbies help each other out. H*ll, I'm a newbie and I love getting stuck in! Why shouldn't you be the perfect person to help someone in pain? I want to talk to people who feel freaky and vulnerable too - it sounds to me like you did the perfect thing. Nice work, Fitz
That is a wonderful story!
You did so much in just one day!
Only thing is not to get too involved emotionally, too invested.
If he drinks again, or continues drinking and coming over, he might drag you down with him. Get someone from the meeting to help you with your 12th stepping.
How lucky is this guy?

Any way we can, Fitz! We help in any way we can.
Sounds like you did what needed to be done. Prayer and a quick meditation come in handy during those times! It keeps me sober just saying "hello, how are you" to a newby and then really listening. Most people just want to be listened to.
Peace & love,
