Guess Who Chaired Her First AA Meeting Today?
ME!
I hadn't planned to, but an AA friend had asked on Facebook this morning if anyone could chair for him. It didn't appear anyone had answered, so when I got to the meeting today, I asked if he had found someone and he hadn't. So before I was even aware that the words were coming out of my mouth, I volunteered. He had asked if I wanted to learn a couple of times before, but I didn't think I had enough time in the rooms to feel comfortable. It actually went very well!
If you had told me 4 months ago that I'd be chairing an AA meeting, I would've looked at you like you had two heads. It felt really good to be of service and to get outside of myself for a little while. I'm even thinking of doing it again.
Coming up on 60 days soon and I feel better than ever. THANK YOU to my SR family for all the support and encouragement. You are a huge part of my recovery!

I remember chairing my first meeting. I lead a lot of meetings at work, but chairing my first AA meeting made me a bit nervous. It was a topic meeting and I was so thankful that somebody came up with a topic and I didn't have to deal with a silent room.

Good for you!!! There are so many ways to "be of service" in AA. Too many people just sit back and let everyone else do the work...pretty much like it is outside the rooms of AA. You're setting a good example for other alcoholics.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm sure your actions today will inspire newcomers here to get involved.. that AA won't bite them.
All the best to a fellow AA'er.

Well done Desert! Experiences like that, while scary, are very beneficial. Good job in stepping up. Good job in going through the fear. Good job in putting some action in the direction your heart was leading you.
Not ONLY will things like that be beneficial to you not picking up that next first drink.....they'll contribute greatly to your overall happiness and contentment in sobriety.
Awesome job all around.
