When is this going to end?
Hi All. My name is Tina and I'm an alcoholic. Today is my 9th day sober and I still feel like sh!t. I have been hospialized twice for withdrawl from alcohol. I decided to go it alone this time, so I had no benzo's to help me. I haven't slept more than 8 hrs in 8 days. I bought some Valerian Root and Melatonin yesterday and took it before bed...feel asleep for maybe 30 minutes. I am exausted, shaking trying to type right now and instead of high BP, mine is very low...around 110 over 60. Anyway, I would appreciate any support received. I thought I would feel better by now. Is it because I have tried detoxing before that it's taking longer now? At least I know I have hit my rock bottom. I pray every day, all throughout the day to feel better. I know I evenually will. I am rambling now. Hope everyone has a blessed, sober day!
Withdrawal does get worse over time, even if you haven't drank as much or as long. This is called "kindling".

Welcome Tina!
I hope you start feeling better soon! I remember how frustrating the insomnia was and how tired I felt. It gets better though, so hang in there and take care of yourself (lots of vitamins!)
Glad you've decided to join us!:day6

And again my own personal opinion .Get to feeling better first then start going to meetings. Even the Big Book says we have to get physicaly well before we can mentally get well. But when you get to feeling up to going I highly recommend it. And going when you don't feel so great can definitely make you feel better sometimes.
Don't give up, Tina! I think you should check with a doctor if your symptoms get any worse but it sounds like you're committed. One of the things that keeps me sober is that I don't want to go through withdrawals again. Keep thinking to yourself that this will be the last time.

Tina, I know little about withdrawal but I've fought sleeplessness my whole life. There's a 2-step program that helped me:
1. If you can't sleep, get out of bed. Get back in when your a$$ is dragging.
2. Get out of bed at the same time every day for two weeks and get sun on your face
It's Spring out there. Savor it. It's a new beginning for you too. Take it easy and God bless.

Welcome!
You don't need to be hospitalized to get medical help with detox. I went into a "Promptcare" walk in clinic twice for help. Both times I emerged with some valium to help me and the whole process took only a couple of hours.

I also suffered from the lack of sleep in early recovery, TinaCthruU. To add to this, I was living with loud roommates that didn't respect that I had to work the next morning. I had stress and the lack of sleep in early sobriety and let me tell you, I'm very glad I stuck through it sober or else I wouldn't be where I am today. The insomnia does go away, I forgot how long it took me, but I think it was a few weeks, sadly. However, each day I would start getting a better nights rest. It's frustrating, it sucks, and it'll drive you wild, but the future holds so much more for you when you're sober.
