good thing I'm not drinking

a friend of the family is in hospice now, and my mom's on life support, I feel numb and wonder if there will be an avalanche or the snow will just melt.

Sticking with sobriety sure has helped me cope with life in the last 3 months...
Best wishes to you, mom & friend.

I'm sorry for all this Dan - I had a lot happen in my first weeks too.
I think you can handle all this, and I guarantee you'll handle it better sober

Prayers for all your loved ones - and remember to lean on us when needed

Dan, my mom passed away of a massive stroke while talking to me on the phone in July of 2010. I had just celebrated 6 months sober. Her death nearly did me in, but I can remember just how calm I was even under the immense stress of it all, and had I chosen to drink at that time I think it would have been very, very bad for me. Like an idiot, though, 4 months later I tried to convince myself I could moderate and once again listened to the lie. Best thing you can do for yourself and your mom is have a clear head. NO sense in adding burden that is self-inflicted. Best, LMZR

Hi Dan,
Are you going to see mother today?
Be strong. Praying for you.
I didn't know about your friend too.
It is after all this passes, that you will have to be extra careful with yourself.

Hi Dan, hope you are doing ok.
Remember, all those things that look so scary and uncomfortable are keeping mother comfortable. The sedation is amazing. People wake up after weeks of intensive care and have no memory at all! And then they look around at their family who are wrecked and hanging with nerves and exhaustion and wonder? "Gosh, what is up with them?!".
Do you expect her to recover? Sorry, if that sounds insensitive.
