April 17 in the Little Blue Book ONE DAY at a TIME in AL-ANON

April 17 in the Little Blue Book ONE DAY at a TIME in AL-ANON:

It has often been suggested that we adopt a favorite maxim or quotation to repeat when we want to tide ourselves over a difficult time. Many of us use the Serenity Prayer in this way. Others, trapped in a baffling dilemma or tempted to a rash decision, often say, “Not my will, but Thine be done.”

What can we do when a dark depression weighs us down and we can only think negatively about ourselves and others? Such painful, puny thinking will often yield to the grandeur of these words from the Psalms:

“When I consider Thy heavens, the work of Thy fingers, the moon and the stars which Thou hast ordained, what is man that Thou art mindful of him?...for Thou hast made him a little lower than the angels and hast crowned him with glory and honor.”

“Let me realize myself and my fellow man as the crowning creation of God. For He Who made us all never meant any of His children to be unimportant.”
