What is your occupation?

Hi guys and gals,

I've just been thinking and thought that it would be interesting to see what occupations we all have or have had during our drinking years.

I know that a lot of people like to reward themselves after a hard days work with an alcholic drink or maybe even drink/drank to relieve the stress of their jobs.

Ill start,

I run my own commercial window cleaning business in the UK and have 5 employees. The job causes me major stress problems dealing with staff, clients, complaints, vehicle breakdowns etc but financially it is worth it. The drinking risk is that I'm either tempted to get on the booze to relieve stress or to celebrate winning more work.

It'll be interesting to hear other peoples experiences.

Thanks,

Bruno.

Hey Staffs! Teacher, secondary: stress, pressure and teenage kids. Sometimes I guess I drank to unwind, mostly because I love getting high and always have.

Nice thread

I was in the restaurant business since I was 16 now 40. Did everything in and went to culinary school early in my career. But for the last ten years I stayed behind the bar a natural home for me.

Now I have left the main stream and found a small job in sales . But just last week I was making some pierogi's for dinner and dont know where but my little HP said hey dummy why not try to make a small business for yourself. So in the first week I already have 20 orders.

Thanks to my HP and AA I would of never done something so rewarding.

Best wishes to all and great thread.

Stay-at-home Mom.

Drinking a bottle of wine almost every night was "Me" time. What a joke! It ended up sucking the life right out of me.

Now, I am content with my cup of tea and conversation with my husband.

Disabled and semi retired. Used to drink to medicate depression and anxiety and ended up making it much worse. Now content to stay home and play with my dogs.

OMGoodness that's awesome!!!!!!!!! I love the food network, love cooking at home, and lately have been thinking of a cooking career. I worked in bars and restaurants in my early 20s though, and am not sure I want to return to that. Did you know Andrew Zimmern is a recovering alcoholic? Just picked up Second Chances, his story is in there. Good luck on the biz!!!!

Started off with a Dept. Store job at 17,
worked in every dept.. Took a lie dector
test to work in Jewelry repair and passed.
Went to HR to chat and in being honest
I told them i snitched candy in the Candy
Dept. oops..... They let me go.

Got a Bank Teller Job that was good, until
I began resenting my boss who drank behind
closed doors. She didnt like me either, so in
cashing a stolen check she fired me. oops

Stay at home mom till we relocated to Tx and
kids got into HS that I got a grocery store job
in customer service, bagging, cart picker upper
and customer carry out. I didnt want to cashier
cause if i got ticked off, which i did regularly, I
could go outside. lol Lot's of physical work and
exercise.

25 yr marriage ended. I moved back to Baton Rouge
via a job interview with the Bank again. Got the teller
position and with all the new up dated changes, i
couldnt keep up. So they let me go in 3 months.

Got a job at a Bakery and loved it.

Had a horrible supervisor, old fart, and made my
life a living hell. lol Then had a run in with one
of my little coworkers and was let go.

Remarried, had hip replacement, went back
to bakery job for a few months and had enough...lol

I left.

Now Im retired....lol

I began drinking from about 1976 to 1990 and
been sober ever since. 21 yrs. 8-11-90

Retired scientist, professor and department head.

Most of the stress I experienced was a consequence of the usual petty faculty infighting and backbiting. The statement that "the reason academic infighting is so bitter is because the stakes are so small" is true. Most university faculty work mainly for recognition, not money. Woe be unto anyone who fails to give recognition that is felt to be due.

But, in fact, I probably drank primarily because I liked to drink. Until I developed a level of tolerance, the buzz was great! I'm now dry for two months and I'm lovin' it.

Dispensing Optician then on the road selling pc based systems to opticians. Not worked for 4 years due to medical issues. Sales position was cool because I mostly chose my own hours and booked my own appointments - always avoided early mornings for obvious reasons.
