Smile Finally getting somewhere...

People have told me so many times on here that I need to be doing activities that make it impossible to drink. You would think that wouldn't be such a difficult idea to master, however it wasn't until about two weeks ago that it finally sunk in for me.

For the past couple of weeks I have been biking like crazy and have gotten back to playing the piano, which I used to love to do. I tried to play sometimes while drinking but the notes would all be blurry and it made it impossible. It is such a great feeling to finally be able to play decently and enjoy playing again.

And as for the bike--I can't believe how much I'm loving it! I woke up after a couple days riding feeling soooo sore (pretty out of shape at that point!) but what an amazing feeling to wake up sore from exercise and not because I fell while drunk!

I feel like I'm FINALLY actually enjoying sobriety instead of just making it through. Love it! Just wanted to share...

saphira, I find that AA meetings interspersed with work, exercise and relaxation works well keeping the "demon rum" out of my head and my hand.

All the best.

Thanks. Are there any activities you've all done that you're loving that you could never have done while drinking?

Love it!

Playing tennis & climbing mountains are my new habits ;-)

I tried to take some tennis lessons years ago... actually paid a couple of hundred bucks up front thinking that would get me to take it easy on Friday nights for my Saturday morning lessons. Of course I ended up missing them all because I as always a hungover mess on Saturday mornings.

Now my tennis game is great & I am having a blast... not being hungover, sick & tired.... Priceless

That's a wonderful feeling, being sore after exercise. I'll take that over a hangover any day. Thanks for sharing!

I have to say that I enjoy listening to people when they talk to me. I didn't do that very well when I was drinking.

I would say the biggest activity I wasn't doing while drinking was living an actual life.
