A Mighty Beginning

Even the newest of newcomers finds undreamed rewards as he tries to help his fellow alcoholic, the one who is even blinder than he.
This is indeed the kind of giving that actually demands nothing. He does not expect his fellow sufferer to pay him, or even to like him.

And then he discovers that through the divine paradox of this kind of giving he has found his own reward, wether or not his fellow sufferer has yet received anything. His own character may still be gravely defective, but he somehow knows that God has enabled him to make a mighty beginning, and he senses that he stands at the edge of new mysteries , joys, and experiences of which he had never before dreamed.

I was thinking about this exact thing last night before I went to bed. While I've struggled on and off myself, I get so much satisfaction from being able to help someone else. We're all in this together; if I've learned anything from my experiences that might be of value to someone, it's incumbent upon me to share that, especially since others have been so generous in sharing with me.

Thanks for that, Johnny.

We learn by teaching. Helping others is a way for us to further concrete our thoughts and beliefs, as we explain them to others they become more clear to ourselves. That I think is one reason why SR has been so sucessfull, people come to learn and in time become the teachers, the gap between may sometimes only be a matter of days.
