Day One
Hello Folks.
I have been drinking for years and gradually the amount has increased to a stupid level. I won't go in to great details, but my drinking really has to stop. Not just for myself and healthwise, but the money side of things too!
I have been stopping, starting for many years, but now it has come to the point that it has to end.
This is Day 1 and the journey has started!

Welcome to both of you...It's a great site....Just want you both to be safe with detoxing...It's a good idea to talk with with your doctor and let them know your drinking history (honestly) and what your plans are...They could make it easier for you..

try to remember that you may feel alone but you are not with this website or in aa or na meetings one day or hour at a time remaining sober is hard work i used to write down the hours i had been sober hoping to stay sober but very scared now i have been clean and sober since 1987
Congratulations, Bonnie and welcome to the forum!
I made so many promises to myself to stop, cut down, only drink on certain occasions, etc. etc...... they'd work for a little while, then I'd be back where I started from. It's maddening, for sure.
Coming here gave me hope and inspiration when I didn't have any of my own. I worried that I would be able (or want) to stop, but I did it by staying close to this place and taking it 10 minutes at a time at first. It gets better and it gets easier and you won't regret it.

Mnnnnn, third, horrible day. Could'nt settle, mind every way. Terrible waves of wanting to get the dreaded stuff and stomach pains. BUT did not give in. Speaking to someone today about giving up the smoking. He has been trying to give up for years, when he did it was by chance and he gave up altogether one night after giving all his fags away.
Yep, it is all the mind, no doubt about it. Mind games!

It gets better I am closing out day three myself looking forward to waking up with a full 96 hours at my back! We can do this!
Bonnie - I felt that way too on the 3rd day - perfectly normal. It'll get a bit better each day. Congratulations on reaching out for a new life - proud of you for taking this big step.
Hi Bonnie.
Hang in there love it does get better. As Hevyn said it is normal to feel this it is something your body goes through.
Treat yourself as you would a very sick freind that you are concerned about and want to make comfortable and happy, treat yourself don't, make nice meals, go to the movies.
Be kind to yourself, this is an important undertaking.
You can do this.
