nervous as hell
I'm going to my first AA meeting in a long time in a little over an hour and i'm freaking out for no reason. I have half a mind to skip it. I'll go but i'm just so scared. I guess it's the fear of change. I dunno. Wish me luck y'all.
i remember that feeling all too well. the good news is that there's nothing to be afraid of. quite the contrary, it's actually one of the few places on planet earth where you can enter a room full of people who all understand exactly what you have been through and are going through.
Let us know how it goes, Grits. I think you will be very pleasantly surprised. I was scared at my first meeting too, but some of those folks have become my best friends now. While I was in the hospital a couple of days ago, at least 8 people from my group came to visit me. Others called and sent texts. They've all been where you're at - there's nothing you can say to them that will come as any surprise. So just sit back, take it all in, and learn from them. Believe me, you will learn a lot in just one meeting.
Back from the meeting and lunch. All went well. So many hugs. So much support. I mentioned my isolationism (over 2 whole years of it) and that really resonated with the group. Tomorrow night is an open meeting in my village and my husband wants to attend with me. It's in the evening which is nice. We can go to the zoo and have a lovely afternoon together then attend the meeting.
I feel like such a fool for shying away from the meetings. If it wasn't for work tonight i would attend another one. I want to be around a sober community so much. I hope this isn't my mania talking and i can keep this up. Between the support here, there, from my family and husband i have hope again.
