Day counting question
Day counting question
Real simple one here...
When declaring your sober time do you count the day you are on, as a full day? For instance, today will be the 36th day I have not drank...but, until midnight Ive technically only been sober 35 days & XX hrs.
And bare with me for stupid question...I have major sleep issues and its 430am...so maybe working on 40% power. haha

Congratulations on your 36th day (& the 35 that went before). It's my birthday next month and I will be entering my 49th year - I think I will just say that I will be 48. I don't think it matters how you count it. Whatever way you look at it 35/36 days is impressive and 48/49 years is depressing!

In the early sobriety days I would put an X on my make-shift calendar before I went to bed, now I just check it off at any time during the day because I no longer care about alcohol and wont be throwing away 43 days of sobriety for some BS 4 hour high. Once I hit 60 days I'll burn the calender and just use the online sobriety calculator to check whenever I feel the need
For me, I can't remember much from the day other than what I wrote down, but I consider it to be the first day I realized that I did not 'have' to drink and did not drink that day\night (after waking up). The week before I quit I couldn't eat or drink much of anything, including alcohol so I can't say for certain whether my actual last drink went into Sept. 22nd, but that's the day I saw the big picture, did not drink that day\evening and have not drank a drop since.
Good luck to you and stay strong.

great work. I troubled myself over this for some time. I also agonised over when is a baby a day old in the same vein. I think there may be differing points of view!! we need an expert? or we can just enjoy what we are doing and celebrate anytime we feel like it!
It is important in the early days to keep a count, I just looked at the counter and found I am 39 days sober. Hey I can celebrate 40 tomorrow!!
I just need to keep those 39 stacked up permanently and add one permanently each day

I'm in AA and my line of sponsorship does the exact same thing Bill W and Dr Bob (AA's founders) did... we mention our last drink date (LDD) and count from there. My LDD was 4/28...so, on 4/28 of this yr I'll celebrate my 5th b-day.
i drank past midnight, but that is my sobriety date as this is when i didn't drink after I woke up. in the past, i had the day i stopped, that day i chose my last day....so, if anyone isn't happy, and i gave them a resentment, they can talk with their sponsor. this time in, i'm not on the marijuana maintenance program and I can remember what i went through.
My last drink was on 12/17/08, my first sober day was 12/18. 12/20/08 was my third day sober, I had 2 full sober days behind me. I no longer count, but I do 'remember' the date of 12/18 every year! I see the confusion.. between how many 'completed' days versus the day you're on. At some point the numbers wont matter much, you'll probably just consider yourself a non-drinker.
Thx for the replies. Think until I start counting by months, Ill just use my words carefully, "today is day 37 for me." instead of "i have 37 days".
weird that this bothered me. Its like you wanna take it very serious to help ensure success and a thorough life change. so the thought of cutting any corners, aint gonna fly.

I think the honesty part of the program is starting to bare fruit...That's good...I thought you had more days than that...You're doing great for the time you've been working it...Keep it up Shane...

I count from the day after I had my last drink. Therefore the following day was, for me, Day 1. The last time I drank was on 11 February this year so I count 12 February as Day I which means I say today is Day 24 for me.
