Hello from a newcomer to recovery.

Hey Everybody, My name is liberamedeus, but you can call me David. I'm an alcoholic and today I earned my first 24 hour chip from AA. It may not seem like much to many people, but it's the longest I've been sober in over two years. I resisted help for so long, but now I'm reaching out because I really want to get sober.

Thank you in advance for whatever support you help me out with. Yesterday, at my first meeting I got about 20 numbers of guys telling me to feel free to call them. Nonetheless, it's very hard for me to imagine picking up the phone and bothering someone I met yesterday with my problems.

So thank you, SR, for existing. I look forward to receiving as well as giving support.

David.

Congrats! I know many people who treasure their 24 hour chip very dearly, even after years of sobriety.

Welcome to SR! I look forward to you sharing more of your experience with us.

Take care,

Welcome liberamedeus Congratulations on your first 24. Don't worry about calling the people who offered to help. They wouldn't have given their numbers had they not wanted to support you! Take the help offered This site is so helpful. I hope you love it here.

It may not seem like much to most people. But to us, it means a lot. Keep it up!

(((liberamedeus))) - Welcome to SR and congratulations on your 24 hours! I remember when 24 hours seemed like 24 years, so that's great!!!

Hugs and prayers,

24 hours is awesome! That is a huge step. Congrats on going to a meeting as well. Keep going everyday!

"Don't drink and go to meetings" and before you know it, you will have a 30 day chip!

Calling people is awkward, but if you can just start out with even one a day, you will have a great support network.

Hey David, a 24 hr chip is huge. Most in AA consider it the most important chip of them all. Be well.

You guys, I don't know what to say. I'm almost in tears from all this unexpected understanding, kindness and support. "I think I'm gonna like it here" as Annie said.

PLUS! GUESS WHAT!? The guy I wanted to be my sponsor but I was too awkward to ask in person just called me and told me he wanted to sponsor me! We meet tomorrow and start going over the Big Book! <<tears of joy

^^^That is brilliant^^^. Believe me when I say you'll find that sort of synchronicity a lot in the rooms of AA the more you go. So happy for you amigo. Don't forget this place is also off the whip awesome. Keep posting, we're all in the same boat.

Amazing, David! The longest you have been sober in two years is a fantastic stride forward!

Bless you. I send you all good wishes for strength, well-being and continued sobriety.

Hang on in there - the best is yet to come.

Pleased to meet you, david. I'm glad you're taking action at a young age - wish I had. Congratulations on your sober time - you sound enthusiastic and hopeful - that's a great attitude.
