7 weeks sober, so grateful for SR
I want to say thank you to all the people who post on here.
I have learned so much from everyone.
It helps to identify & not feel so alone in the world.
I've learned from others struggles, mistakes, triumphs, tragedies, milestones.
But especially their knowledge & insight.
I know there are "lurkers" who rarely post, but I would encourage you to. We have MUCH to offer each other. And I find it therapeutic to help others, it helps me in return.
You are like family & I wouldn't have made it this far without everyone's contributions.

I agree with the service point of your post, PCL. When I was in active addiction (and depression/anxiety), I could disappear for hours into my head which was not a very happy place at the time. Believing I could share with someone else and actually help them was a great revelation to me, and did a great deal towards restoring my self esteem and respect. Serving others is a great way to get out of your own head for a while - I think it is a form of distancing yourself from harmful ways of thinking. There are many of those, I have come to learn: AVRT is one way of disassociating yourself from negative impulses. Mindfulness and meditation, the idea of becoming an observer of yourself as a means to separate the good self from the bad self, is something else that I am working on also.
As for service, a Great Man said, 'If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you,'.

Fitz, I like reading your posts & being a part of your world. Keep posting!
Janie, I feel fabulous today. I quit smoking 5 1/2 days ago. I'm so full of energy today. Have gotten so much done today. I would still be on the couch nursing a wicked hangover 2 months ago.
Thank you everyone & I hope you ALL have a blessed & beautiful Saturday

Hi Purplecat
Good for you. I totally agree, posting not only helps oneself but it really has helped me to read posts by both newcomers and older members.
Well done on the cigarettes as well, you sound wonderful.

PCL - way to go!
I'm addicted to feeling good, feeling fresh and clear minded. What a gift.
Even if I have no plans, like today, I love that the possibility is there just simply because I CAN.....and not emotionally and physically wrecked.

WTG! and I hear ya... before I got sober I would not have even opened the curtains until after sundown when I was getting my drunk on again. :-\
Feels great to not fear the light or go into panic at thought of going outside (like I use to.)
