2 months sober then relapse, back to day 1

Although I relapsed I went to my I.O.P program yesterday and called my sponsor. This is new for me because I would usually binge on a relapse. This one lasted a half day. I felt like crap yesterday but today I went to my meeting with a positive attitude. I don't want to use any more and I need help to stop. I didn't even enjoy it, I think the steps I am taking are running using for me

Welcome Jay...Two things...Call your sponsor before you drink...And keep working on the steps..You might have to revisit step one.

Welcome Jay!

I'm glad you caught yourself and changed direction. It might be day 1 again, but you have 2 months of experience and a support system in place, so you're really starting at a higher place.....

Glad you've joined us!

Thanks for sharing, Jay, and thanks for joining us here! I've found this site to be an invaluable resource in my recovery. I came here on the day I stopped drinking, and I've been here and alcohol-free ever since.

I'm sorry you had to relapse after 2 months, but I'm thankful it was a small one and did not become a full-blown binge. You may have made a bad decision to drink, but you made a good one in not allowing it to progress any further.

You've already proven that you can go 2 months without a drink, so that should be old hat to you. Just do what you did before, and do whatever else you need to do to solidify your resolve to not have a drink. You never have to have another Day 1 again.

Isn't is crazy how we don't even enjoy it anymore?! I have to remind myself of that sometimes.

I know everyone is different but I had over a year of starts & stops. 2 weeks here, a month there. Until one day I drank, I sooo wasn't enjoying it b/c I knew I would never be satisfied. One more drink was never enough. I said enough, I will not do this anymore.

You've learned a valuable lesson from this. So all is not lost.
It is only a mistake if you don't learn from it.
Stay strong, keep going. Forever is right around the corner

Welcome to SR 2 months is brilliant and it is good that you stopped instead of binging when you did lapse.

Hi there, I'll share with u what my therapist said to me.... Although u drank again u are far from where u were on Day 1. I'm not big on counting the days. Glad u stopped before u really started. I too have to remind myself that I don't even enjoy it anymore! Weird hey.

I know how bad you feel from this, probably more so emotionally than physically. If I can ask, why did you do it?

But think of it this way, 1/2 day out of 60 you used, that's over 99% sober!

So on that note: GREAT JOB ON BEING SOBER FOR 2 MONTHS!
