Angry Everything is so loud!

I am noticing now after 15 days of sobriety that everythig is so loud. The slightest little noises are really winding me up. The clock ticking, the tap dripping. Stupid things. The hum of the fridge, Next doors washing machine. Oh for a day of pure and utter peace.

I remember that phase well. Do you also see things out of the corner of your eye that aren't quite there?

It will pass, just one of those things you gotta wait out.

Well for the first time since I was a child I actually checked under my bed as the house was making all sorts of strange noises. I got so paranoid that someone was hiding under there. Bearing in mind I am a 42 year old woman that was kinda stupid. Normallly used to passing out in a coma not hearing anything :/

I've seen things out of the corners of my eyes as well. Weird. And I'm paranoid in the same way. I think it gets better...we'll both just have to see.

I have an awesome pair of head sets that help, or I have used ear plugs ;-)

If you can afford it (and bare in mind the money we spent on booze would cover it) a set of noise cancelling headphones is probably worth it. It's always the thing that sets me back to drinking is the boredom, the noise, the insomnia. And if it ain't the physical noise its the noise in my head, the chatterring of my mind. Guess we have to excercise, tire ourselves out.

I've found relief from noise sensitivity and feeling off kilter from OTC motion sickness pills. Maybe it will help someone else too?
I'm very noise sensitive...have been all my life but it can be exacerbated by certain things. Usually stress.
Pop me a PM if you'd like more info.

It does get better, my problem was the horrible anxiety and depression that made me want to drink again, it eventually went.
Put some background music on, listen to the radio, or even go out for a walk and enjoy the birdsong.

I used white noise, like a fan, at first when trying to get to sleep. A steady, reliable sound can help erase some of the background noise that might be bothering you. It did get better for me.
