Birthday night at AA
Birthday night at AA
Tonight I got my one year coin at my home group. My family was there for the first time so I was a little nervous. My sponsor gave me my coin and a metal 24 hour coin as well- to keep on my dashboard to remind me each and every day. He said some really nice things that really touched me. I spoke for a couple of minutes, I had it all planned out months beforehand and it was going to be funny and profound. Once I got up there, however, I forgot everything and was just overwhelmed with humility and spoke from the heart - nothing profound, just very honest and it felt terrific.
Another "old timer" from my home group gave me a coin for my key chain. I honestly didn't even think the guy liked me all that much - who knows, it was really cool.
Thanks for letting me share.
I go by StPete and I AM an alcoholic.

Thanks Sapling - you "get it" so well, I look forward to your 1 year.
Concerning the pain - I was a little self conscious before going up front, like I needed to explain why my face makes me look like a meth addict who just took 30 batons to the eye.
The Gabapentin is doing a pretty good job but I still have to supplement it sometimes. When I woke up this morning the pain was excruciating since everything was out of my system so I took a half vicodin this morning with the gaba. The biggest downside to the gaba is that it takes about 2 hours to kick in. I've got the bottle by my bed now and plan to take one when my work alarm goes off in the morning then go back to sleep. Hopefully as the shingles are clearing up the pain will start to ease more too and if I give the gaba a head start to the day Advil will be enough of a supplement.
Thanks for your concern!

The meds won't work with alcohol so I'd be drunk and getting worse or detoxing and rejecting the medicine completely jacked up on pain pills...and getting worse. I feel like I've got a fighting chance now.
Honestly, I feel quite positive. It's certainly frustrating and upsets the routine but nothing right now but a small speed bump.
