Hello, my name is George.
Hello, my name is George.
Today is day 1. I attended my first AA meeting 6 months ago. I went to two more and on the third one I walked out halfway through and went to the bar.
And I have drank every day since. Hard. I desperatley desire sobriety. I joined here to help myself. My name is George, I am 24, and I am an alcoholic, marijuana & painkiller addict.
I have smoked pot everyday since I was 13 for the most part, and drank everyday since I was 18. I eat pills when I can. My goal is to post once per day on this site to remind me to stay on course.
My first goal is to gain a true 24 hours. My last drink was 5:30 P.M. yesterday and it is currently10:54 A.M. My AA meeting is at 6:00 tonight. I will take my 24 chip then.
Thanks for listening!

Welcome George! There are tons of fantastic meetings in the Valley. 6 months sober myself and going to AA while also reading these boards daily have helped me tremendously.
Hang in there, 6pm will come soon enough

Bledsoe, I will be at the North Scottsdale Fellowship meeting tonight. I am living at 52nd & Shea. If you know of good meetings within 5-10 miles of me, I am all ears. Thanks again for your support. All of you!
56th st and Shea, 5:30 pm Mon-Sat,iirc, fantastic mtg. Get there early for parking. Its on the SE corner, in a little church that used to be a house. 5631 E. Shea Blvd
Very welcoming, all lengths of sobriety there. Good mix of people, ages, and occupations.

Thank you! That is even more convenient. Is it an open meeting by chance? I know the place you speak of. My girlfriend thinks she may have a problem as well and wants to attend with me.
George,
You can wealk in a closed meeting too, you just have to have a desire to quit drinking. In open meetings anyoe can come, non-alcoholics, family, students for class reports, etc.
It is great you are doing this while you are young. I waited until I was 44 and I'd like to see you miss on 20 years of misery.

Thank you Gillz. Good to know what you said. I will tell my girlfriend that to make her comfortable. I am without a doubt, a raging alcoholic. She is borderline, although some nights she keeps pace with me and even keeps the bottle pouring for us long after I have reached my "peace". As terrible as I feel right now, shaking hands and rapid heartbeat, I am excited for both of us.
Hi George,
so glad you are here and going to meetings. That is quite an addiction you have been struggling with. Great that you have decided to do something about it.
I am coming up 9 months sober with the support of both AA and this forum.
The program does work it if you work the program.
All the best

How cool is that...And he can walk to it..I feel like checking that meeting out myself...
Thank you all. I am excited, but the demons are strong. They are messing with me already. This morning I was excited about sobriety, now as I get close to being off work, my normal habits are talking to me.
It's taking all my power to just go home rather than making my usual pit stop for shots & pints. I just gotta get to that first meeting. So close. Thank you all for the support! I want this, so I will get it. Today at least.

Welcome George!
Don't listen to those demons - they're just throwing a fit because you're not feeding them anymore. It gets better - it really does!
Soak up all the support you can at the meeting (and here) - we all need help to break the cycle. Glad you decided to join us today!
