Thought I would say hello
I believe that it is time for me to begin being sober. I've known that I have an issue with my drinking for quite some time now but it's just starting to affect my life in ways that I do not like. In the past two weeks I have had two incidents where I was so drunk that I have fallen down. The second one being last Saturday night in front of my son. The look on his face is what prompted me to look for some assistance.
My drinking has also affected my job. I am a computer programmer and I need to have my wits about me to do my job. I seem to be losing my ability to concentrate and to remember how to do my job at times.
My drink of choice is beer. I am an avid home brewer and have been very active in my brewing lately. I currently have at least ten gallons of beer ready to drink. I really enjoy making craft beer but I'm afraid that it is a bad choice for me as a hobby.
I didn't have anything to drink yesterday because I was so hungover so I would consider today my first sober day. Any help from this forum will be appreciated. I need to stop before its too late.

Congrats on calling it yourself and taking the first steps to recovery. I did pretty much the same thing 14 months ago after months of fooling around making excuses, trying to "cut back", making rules about what I could drink, and how much, and when--what a waste of time! Best advice I can give is STICK TO IT! Your recovery will be the best thing you ever did for yourself, your son, and everyone who loves you. It takes a lot of guts to face those facts and change old ways. Be proud of that, and hold on with both hands! And yeah, you're gonna need a new hobby... Good luck!
Welcome nitram! Glad you're here!
I didn't want to give up alcohol (not completely) either, but looking back I can now see that I was never a normal drinker...... always wanted "just one more."
Stick around and keep reading - if we can do it, you can too!

Hello there Nitram - and allkindsofcrazy! It's so wonderful to have you here. I wish I'd taken a hard look at my drinking habits long before I did. Many awful things happened that never needed to - but I just couldn't see it at the time.
We're here to support & help you on your journey. There's a new day dawning - you can do this.
