so im really starting to think im an alcoholic. i can get up to 2 months sober but i always end drinking again and end up in the hell that is my drinking/using life.

im thinking of going to an AA meeting tonight...but im confused because some of the meetings on the aa site say "open" and some "closed discussion"...im just so scared to go and i would like ANY advice or encouragement I can get...

And on that site it states that "open" meetings are for anyone and "closed" meetings are for those who desire to stop drinking. Either meeting will be okay. There are also speaker meetings, big book meetings, and step meetings.

Men's meetings are for men, women's are for women, and Gay and Lesbian meetings are often for people with those preferences. Some are wheelchair accessible.

(almost) Any meeting would work for you! Try to listen for the similarities and not the differences!

thank you for the quick reply. im just so miserable right now and dont really want to be around anyone. but im starting to get so scared realizing my situation is starting to look SO damn hopeless. and maybe that AA is my only option...but im so SCARED...

Just try to remember almost everyone in those rooms felt the exact same fear,anxiousness, ect. before walking threw. I promise after you do those feelings will fade. Because you are with people that know what you feel.

You can't ask for more than a room full of people that have been where you are and are doing something about it. And they want to help you.

well i couldnt get a ride and its too late to walk now. going to go this week if i can start waking up early enough, i work 3-11 and i usually sleep from 5-6 to 2:30 in the afternoon...uggh its so hard to get help when your feeling as low as i am right now.

Kind of a rough start huh....I guess I wanted it a little more than that....I was doing three meetings a day when I started......I was going to do whatever I had to do to get me where I am now...And I still work hard at this. Best of luck to you.

they dont even have 3 meetings a day where i live...

but i understand what u mean, maybe im not ready because i wont do whatever it takes to get to a meeting?

ugggh, i just want to go to bar and escape this mental hell.

It's not going to just happen for you Lovetodrink....You have to put some effort into it. Do what you got to do. Maybe AA is not for you...Maybe there is an easier softer way.
