Cravings

Today is day 9 for me. Finally hit some cravings. Had a long day at school, feeling a little stressed out - anxiety, whatever. Having a drink of some sort sounds pretty good right now..., going to try to occupy myself, be strong and let the feeling pass. I'm pretty sure that in an hour to an hour and a half it will.

You can do it Kat - it's just a feeling - no need to act to act on it
Might be good to draw up a list of possible other ways to relax tho?

not a day goes by that i don't think about a drink, it comes automatically, then i think about how bad it gets.

I made it through not drinking, and I did think about why I stopped drinking in the first place, but it was so bad, I was irritated and didn't care. I do need to think of some good ways to relax. I can get pretty wound up by the end of the day. I need some kind of release.

Thank you for the suggestions

I'm 1 year 6 months, and about 22 days sober today and I had some cravings too. Dee74 said it right, "you dont have to act on it." Congratulations on the 9 days.

Kat when I first came here, Least said gratitude helped a lot. I started posting a gratitude everyday (see gratitude section). I was skeptical at first as it seemed unrelated to my problems and overall a stupid thing to do. Over time I came to see how the daily practice of gratitude has trained me to focus on the positives whenever I want to. It is also seems to be impossible to be grateful and resentful at the same time.

My ability to handle stress seems to have improved enormously.

It takes a few weeks to start to kick in.
