Nervous about DETOX!

Hey everybody...originally posted just before Christmas......thinking about quitting after a long (and daily career) and the general feeling was see what yout Dr. says. Well the Dr. and the substance abuse specialist, as well as a good friend in recovery also said, crazy to try outside of medically monitored detox.........so I did the intake interview today, and am now on the waiting list for the beginning of the week......scared as all get out....what to expect?

If your in the hands of medical professionals that is all you can do, listen to their instructions and they will take good care of you. Congratulations on your decision to quit, what are you plans for recovery after detox?

Hi Tropfever

I think you made a great decision - I have no experience to share though because I made a bad detox decision to do it at home

I did my detox at a medically monitored facility. I highly recommend it! I was there for 6 days and loved every minute of it. I don't know what you are detoxing from, but I was detoxing from alcohol. They monitor your vitals about 4 times a day, give you meds to help the withdrawals, feed you very well, and have classes to learn coping skills. You can do this. My advice is to just throw yourself into it and take advantage of the time you have there where your only concern is your own well-being. Honestly, you will get out of it as much as you are willing to put into it.

Good luck!

I followed up my detox stay with 6 weeks of outpatient therapy and an individual therapist. I've been sober about 3 1/2 years now. If you really want it, you can do it, too!

Once you complete the medical detox, IOP and AA sounds like a good plan.
